Materials Database
IFAM Fraunhofer created within EVPSN2 a database
on passive safety related materials and material models.
Within APSN, iIt is aimed at becoming an information source for
all those who have a special interest in new materials for passive
safety related applications. The database provides a structured
access to materials data as well as contacts to entities developing
or working with these, and thus a gateway to in-depth information.
It provides design engineers with the required database for calculations
and materials models.
At this stage, the following groups of materials are represented
in the database:
- Metal foams,
- Rigid and soft polymer foams,
- Rubbers and foams for car crash dummies.
It is clearly not the purpose of the database to supply e.g.
a design engineer with data that is detailed enough and provided
in a format which allows direct transfer to an FEM program. Instead,
the aim is to inform about special materials, which will very
often still be in a development phase or just have entered the
market, in a way that may serve the above-mentioned design engineer
to derive first estimates from the data given. These estimates
should be suitable for him to decide whether the path he has chosen
by evaluating this specific material is worth pursuing. If the
answer to this question is in the affirmative, the database would
provide him with contact details and thus guide him to the expert
who may furnish him with in-depth information.
Interested in participating: please fill in the
database questionnaire (help yourself with these description
and example)
and send it to Mr
Dirk Lehmhus at IFAM Fraunhofer!
