HUMOS2 Biomechanic Experiments Database

The Biomechanic Experiment Database (BED) was established in 2003 by a team of researchers at the Biomechanics and Impact Mechanics Laboratory (LBMC) of the French National Institute for Transport and Safety Research (INRETS). This database is being developed within the European-funded HUMOS2 project. The primary objective is to provide repository of biomechanic test data accessible to the HUMOS2 Partners and on request to the APSN partners. When finalised, this database will be accessible to the entire European research community.

The contents of the BED include data from biomechanical impact tests conducted in different laboratories involved in the HUMOS2 project as well as information on the associated test facilities, test programs, and test subjects. The test data include measured forces, accelerations, and motions of human subjects. Data about effect on muscle tone, biomechanical behaviour, organ interactions and injury mechanism collected during the HUMOS2 Project will be also accessible.

Time histories of the data are formatted as individual files and linked to the database by test number. The standard ISO MME is used for the exchange of the data. Search routines are being created which allow the user to create sub-sets of the data based on user specified parameters. General information on test programs such as objective, investigators, test matrix, and results will also available. Subject anthropometry measurements will also be contained in the BED.

The possibility to include experimental data and/or results from laboratories who are not involved in the HUMOS2 project are examined because one objective of APSN is the set-up of a database gathering the results of biomechanical experiments conducted within European-funded RTD projects in the field of passive safety.

Further, the draft report developed by HUMOS2 project on ISO MME is now ready and can be downloaded here (just click on the link!).

The database will be accessible at the HUMOS2 website. In the meantime, should you be interested in having more information, please contact Mr J-P. Verriest at INRETS.
