WG3 Virtual testing & modelling
The Working group 3 is led by CRF and co-led
by MECALOG. Its work is structured around ten
task forces, focussing on establishing the foundation for an integrated
research pool on virtual testing and modelling also aiming at
creating a permanent extended working group (with regulatory bodies,
consumer test associations, EEVC, ETSC) for the inclusion of virtual
testing in standard setting and regulations.
TF1 Definition of a proper architecture for a common
database on virtual testing (coordinated with the leaders
of work package 3 on databases and WP8 on E-networking).
TF2 Collection of technical deliverables from
past (4th and 5th FWP) EU projects and their inclusion in the
database.
TF3 Census of national projects related to virtual testing
applications in passive safety field and collection of
corresponding technical reports/deliverable, with particular attention
at new associated states level (eastern countries).
TF4 Census and collection of existing experimental tests
of which set-ups and results are made available as reference cases
(e.g.: barriers and dummies validation tests, material characteristics).
TF5 Census and collection of numerical models
(vehicles, barriers, dummies) that can be made available for general
purposes.
TF6 Preparation of reports/documents that summarise the
status of research integration (by referring to previous
points) and define/identify the gap to be filled with joint research
activities in the field of virtual testing; in other words, preparation
of road maps describing how much the research in virtual testing
field is currently integrated and how improvements in the integration
process can be achieved.
TF7 Definition of detailed joint research programmes
- in conjunction with the leaders of workpackage 2 Strategy and
workpackage 4 Research integration - which should be initialised
in the second 18 months period.
TF8 Establish links with regulatory bodies, consumer
test associations, EEVC, ETSC, etc. to start the discussion
about the possibilities, problems, actions etc. of inclusion of
virtual testing in standard and regulations, by creating a permanent
extended working group that periodically meets.
TF9 Monitor the evolution of virtual testing related
aspects within the sub-projects of the IPs of the 6th FP
and identify opportunities for new improvements through new integrated
research activities.
TF10 Dissemination of a common rating tool for virtual
testing (ADVISER), already promoted
via ADVANCE/VITES projects as well the SP7 of the IP on Advanced
Protection Systems.
To overcome or at least reduce the already mentioned difficulty/reluctance
to share results, it is proposed to allocate parts of the APSN’s
budget for the reduction of this barriers, i.e. purchase or providing
licensed access to existing databases and models.
