WG1 Real-world Accident and injury data including Medicine and
Injury cost
The Working group 1 is led by the VSRC and co-led by the
LAB and LMU. Its work is structured by seven task forces
(TF), which are listed below. Several of these task forces are
running in parallel and all will ultimately contribute to the
foundation of an integrated research pool within the Virtual Centre
of Excellence. This real-world data research pool will
provide a forum for the continuing evaluation of casualty reduction
benefits and the co-ordination of further research initiatives.
TF1 Evaluation of passive safety casualty
reduction from past and current research programmes (4FP,
5FP, national projects, regulatory and consumer programmes).
TF2 Medicine and injury costs in order to review
knowledge in Injury Scaling, Development of Impairment Scales
as well to overlook European Injury Cost Situation and to intensify
contacts with Accidentology and Clinical Medicine in old and new
Member states and evaluate the contribution to casualty reduction.
TF3 Issues associated with the new member states
including the sharing of information, knowledge and methods between
the established and new member states, in the field of real-world
accident and injury data.
TF4 Traditional dissemination activities within
the field of real-world accident and injury data and medicine.
Information exchange workshops bringing together 5FP, national
projects, and the like.
TF5 Evaluation of passive and integrated safety casualty
reduction from concurrent research programmes currently
proposed in 6FWP Integrated Projects. Most notably these will
include the sub-projects within the Advanced Protective systems
IP, ISAAC (Information System and Accident Analysis for Road Care
in Europe) and the SafetyNet IP (European Traffic Safety Information
System).
TF6 Identification of further gains and associated
research on the basis of TF5, which could be directed at:
- Implementing and exchanging the knowledge and experience
of the medical staff from the Forensic Medicine Department of
the Medical University of Warsaw, providing access to specific
in-depth Real Accident and Injury Data, collected from the Warsaw
Area (Viseb)
- Provide an in-depth accident database, the first one in Spain,
developed in close collaboration with the Spanish authorities
and analysis the whole Spanish accidental situation with access
to the largest Spanish accident extensive database (CIDAUT)
- Provision of data from real-world accidents in urban and
inner-city roads as well as accident reconstruction capabilities
(IDIADA)
- Provision of a general European Database information on accident
rate in Poland (PIMOT)
TF7 Determine the real-world data forum
within the Virtual Centre of Excellence. On the basis
of the expertise and experience of the previous 6 tasks it will
be possible to determine the terms of reference, research brief
and constitution of the integrated research pool within the emerging
Virtual Centre of Excellence.
